IM Louisville: Race Report

October 14, 2018

  • ~ Herd Team Member Ryan Vonderach entered the Louisville Ironman with High hopes, a great plan, and plenty of Training. Unfortunately the weather and the venue were not going to cooperate. Dogged by heavy rains starting the night before, the participants battle wind, rain, and themselves all day long on the course. Despite horrendous conditions, Ryan put up a 9:10:39 to finish in 2nd place in his age group, continuing on his path to someday qualify for Kona.

Ryan was cheered on by friends and family members who braved the elements all day to give him positive encouragement along the way.

Even though the disappointment of not finishing first hampered him, Ryan rallied some of the weary support staff and went back down at midnight to see that last of the finishers cross the finish line. Truly embodying the spirit of the Herd, a couple of Tall PBR’s and cheering on the folks that are real “ironman and women” the spirit of the Herd was well represented in Kentucky the entire weekend.
