15 HERD athletes spent an eventful day in the southwest participating in IRONMAN Arizona. In what 3 time champion Lionel Sanders called the "toughest conditions he has ever faced in IMAZ", The HERD battled the wind and sun to take home FIRST PLACE in the IRONMAN Tri-Club competition for Division V. The day was highlighted by 2 podium finishes in the 18-24 age group. Ryno posted a 10:34:33 on only his second IRONMAN race to capture 3rd while Cookies grabbed the #5 spot on his PR effort of 11:38:32!
The HERD presence was not only felt during the race, in the IRONMAN village and all around Tempe but The HERD support team of family and friends was unquestionably the loudest and proudest among all race day spectators.
On a fantastic day that produced many great results, the only thing that topped the finish line for The HERD was the start of the race when future HERD member Breezy Bochenek (daughter of Stan and sister of Bryce and Brennan) delivered a beautiful rendition of our national anthem to officially start the event.
IRONMAN Arizona has become a staple for The HERD given the proximity and spectator friendly venue. A group of athletes have already singed up for next year, ready to defend the Tri-Club 1st place title. See you in 2018!
